he aint heavy

On Saturday I attended a wedding. Nothing spectacular about that when you are a Wedding Photographer. But in being a Wedding Photographer, I'm often around for the speeches. Sometimes the speeches are just the run o' the mill bog standard crongratulationsongettinghitchedyouarebothacelookingforwardtogettingpissedamen. At other times, though, I get a glimpse of something really special.

The Best Mans speach from this weekends wedding was something really special. The Best Man appeared to be a personal journal keeper from way back, and while some people might see this as a bit pretentious, I've got a special spot in my heart for this kind of thing. The Best Man, let's call him Dave, started his speech with the journal entry from the day he met the Groom ("Seems like a good lad"), way back in their early teens. He then proceeded to read out various entries from events that at the time would not have seemed particularly funny to the young men having these adventures, but to look back on them now was the cause for much hilarity.

I fell a little bit in love on Saturday night (especially when Dave referred to the blank page that was Saturday, and how much joy it was going to bring him to write about the day) and I think I will remember Dave's speech for a long time. It's been one of my favourites.
